On Asymptotic Pointwise Contractions in Metric Spaces
We discuss the existence of fixed points of asymptotic pointwise mappings in metric spaces. This is the nonlinear version of some known results proved in Banach spaces. We also discuss the case of multivalued mappings. MSC: Primary 47H09; Secondary 47H10.
متن کاملGeneralized Asymptotic Pointwise Contractions and Nonexpansive Mappings Involving Orbits
Four recent papers 1–4 present simple and elegant proofs of fixed point results for pointwise contractions, asymptotic pointwise contractions, and asymptotic nonexpansive mappings. Kirk and Xu 1 study these mappings in the context of weakly compact convex subsets of Banach spaces, respectively, in uniformly convex Banach spaces. Hussain and Khamsi 2 consider these problems in the framework of m...
متن کاملPointwise Approximation by Elementary Complete Contractions
A complete contraction on a C-algebra A, which preserves all closed two sided ideals J , can be approximated pointwise by elementary complete contractions if and only if the induced map on B⊗A/J is contractive for every C-algebra B, ideal J in A and C-tensor norm on B ⊗ A/J . A lifting obstruction for such an approximation is also obtained.
متن کاملPointwise estimates for 3-monotone approximation
We prove that for a 3-monotone function F ∈ C[−1, 1], one can achieve the pointwise estimates |F(x) − Ψ(x)| ≤ cω3(F, ρn(x)), x ∈ [−1, 1], where ρn(x) := 1 n2 + √ 1−x2 n and c is an absolute constant, both with Ψ , a 3-monotone quadratic spline on the nth Chebyshev partition, and with Ψ , a 3-monotone polynomial of degree ≤ n. The basis for the construction of these splines and polynomials is th...
متن کاملPointwise Estimates for Monotone Polynomial Approximation
We prove that if f is increasing on [ 1,1], then for each n = 1, 2 . . . . . there is an increasing algebraic polynomial P. of degree n such that {f(x) P.(x){ < cw2( f, V/I x 2 /n) , where w2 is the second-order modulus of smoothness. These results complement the classical pointwise estimates of the same type for unconstrained polynomial approximation. Using these results, we characterize the m...
